Palazzo Rosso Farm is a historic 17th century Villa and 400 acre arable farm, 15 kms south of the beautiful Unesco world heritage city of Vicenza, in the heart of the Veneto countryside near Venice in northern Italy. The farm is owned and run by Silvia Zini and her husband Philip Frankland with their two children Peter and Daniela. Palazzo Rosso has been a working farm since at least the 17thcentury. It is made up of 400 acres of arable farm land which we manage with the help of two farm employees. We grow a variety of crops such as Wheat, Mais, Soia, Sugar beet, Sunflower, RapeSeed, Barley, Potatoes, Alfalfa and Rye Grass. We also produce roughly 100 tons of grapes for a local wine cooperative, which include Pinot, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet. We have 6 holiday rental apartments built into the south facing wing of Palazzo Rosso. The 400 year old building was completely andlovingly restored in 2006, retaining all original features such as beams, solid stone walls, fireplaces etc. During the restoration we installed solar panels to produce both electricity and hot water and a heat pump heating/cooling system to ensure that the entire building would be completely energy efficient and independent.
There is a 300 square metre, 10 metre high beamed barn for guest use, paved with local stone. There is a pool with jacuzzi jets in the south facing garden. There are extensive gardens for guests on both sides of the building.
There is also a Common room on the ground floor with a kitchen and table for 14, bathroom with shower, computer and printer, Tv, Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3, Pool table and Table Football. On the first floor there is also a very big covered outdoor terrace with tables and chairs and a great view out over the south facing garden, pool area, paddocks and our farm. We also have a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment available for rent in the barn of an old restored farmhouse which is called The Mulberries. There is a cycle track in front of the farm which winds its way 15 kms to the centre of Vicenza and 20 kms south along a river and parallel to the Berici Hills wine road. Other important places of interest nearby include Venice, Verona, Padova, Treviso and Lake Garda.
