Castello Inferiore di Marostica

Castello Inferiore di Marostica

Marostica - Vicenza

Today the Castello Inferiore is located in the town of Marostica, in the province of Vicenza. Together with his twin, the Castello Superiore, he is known by all as Castello di Marostica.
The castle, linked to its double by a wall of about 1800 meters long, finds its origins in 1312, when Cangrande della Scala wanted the construction.
Today the castle is a museum open to visits of groups or singles. The visit of the structure starts from the Corte d’Armi and then continues until you reach the Loggiato. From here you can visit the halls of the piano nobile, including the Sala Consiliare, the Astanteria, the Sala del Camino, the Pretura. In these ancient spaces there is the Museum of the costumes of the game of chess (Museo dei costumi della partita a scacchi). Here are displayed some of the precious costumes created for the reenactment of the game of chess, which every two years is carried out in the town square.
Inside the castle there are the Spezieria of Prospero Alpini, the Venetian prisons, the Austrian cells and the Captain’s room. From the 4th level, we continue on the way to Ronda and the armoury of the chess game that hosts a large selection of armour, shields, banners and white arms and auction.
